Mourning the loss of Honorary President Dieter Steffens

KAS Eupen mourns the loss of its Honorary President, Dieter Steffens, who has passed away at the age of 84. As president, Dieter Steffens led KAS Eupen for 22 years and, as a tireless supporter, saw the club rise from the 3rd to the 1st Division. Dieter Steffens is one of the most significant and influential figures in the club’s 80-year history.

In May 1990, Dieter Steffens took over as president of KAS Eupen. As a building contractor, he planned and spearheaded the construction of the main stand at the Kehrweg Stadium, including the Business Club and the KAS Lounge. In 2010, he implemented and oversaw the expansion of the stadium to the 8,500-seat capacity required by the Pro League. Day in, day out, he supervised the work and lent a hand himself with a digger, spade and wheelbarrow. Whenever possible, Dieter Steffens shunned the limelight and instead devoted himself selflessly, modestly and tirelessly to the club.

He thus became a pioneer in the history of KAS Eupen and of football in the region. KAS Eupen owes an immeasurable debt of gratitude to Dieter Steffens.

It is with deep gratitude that KAS Eupen bids farewell to its long-serving president and honorary president.

The board and all members of the club would like to express their sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Thank you, Dieter!
