KAS Eupen loses 2-3 to Red Star Paris

On the penultimate day of their training camp at the Paris Saint-Germain campus, KAS Eupen narrowly lost 2-3 in a last-minute friendly against French second division side Red Star Paris.

Against a strong Ligue 2 third-placed team, KAS Eupen put in a very good performance, especially in the second half, and managed to turn a 0:2 deficit at half-time into a 2:2 tie thanks to goals from Zakaria Atteri and Kevin Möhwald, before the hosts scored the winning goal in the 81st minute to make it 3:2. In a lively game with chances at both ends, Eupen’s (almost) successful comeback was overshadowed by three goals conceded after mistakes in their own ranks.

From the start, it was an evenly balanced game with both teams sharing possession equally. Red Star played with confidence and technical skill, while KAS Eupen held their own and created danger in front of the hosts’ goal.

However, Red Star were more efficient than the Pandas in the first half and took advantage of a mistake by Eupen in their own penalty area in the 3rd minute to take an early 1-0 lead through Guillaume Trani.

After some quick moves, Logan Delaurier-Chaubet in the 5th minute, Mark Müller in the 26th minute, and Delaurier-Chaubet again had good scoring opportunities, but Red Star thwarted them. Instead, Red Star scored the second goal of the game. In the 27th minute, Damien Durand converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0 for Paris.

Despite some good scenes, Bruno Pinheiro’s team went into the break 2-0 down.

In the 61st minute, Eupen scored the 1-2 after a beautiful and fast counterattack. Kevin Möhwald passed deep to Isaac Nuhu, who laid the ball off to Zakaria Atteri. The center forward didn’t hesitate and took his first chance to score. Perfect.

The goal clearly inspired KAS Eupen. A corner kick by Logan Delaurier-Chaubet almost went straight into the goal, and Isaac Nuhu had a chance to make it 2-2, but the Red Star goalkeeper prevented it.

KAS Eupen kept up the pressure and took advantage of their next chance. In the 75th minute, Kevin Möhwald scored the equalizer to make it 2-2. Just like the 1-2, the pass came from Isaac Nuhu.

Just when KAS Eupen had the game and their opponents under control, Red Star scored their third goal. In the 81st minute, Hachem Abdelsamad took advantage of a mistake by Eupen and scored to make it 3-2.

To conclude their training camp in Paris, KAS Eupen will play another friendly against Paris Saint-Germain’s U23 team on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
