Bruno Pinheiro new head coach at KAS Eupen
KAS Eupen is starting the coming season with a new head coach and a completely new coaching team.
After one season, the collaboration with Mersad Selimbegović, who coached the team in a total of 28 championship matches with the utmost personal commitment, comes to an end. Under his leadership, the team achieved a total of 30 points with 8 wins and 6 draws and finished the season in 10th place in the Challenger Pro League. Despite interim relegation worries, he led the team to a secure place in the table. However, the team was unable to achieve its goal of finishing in the top 6. KAS Eupen would like to thank Mersad Selimbegović most sincerely for his dedicated work and always constructive cooperation. We wish him every success in his future endeavours, both on a sporting and personal level.
Bruno Miguel Nogueira Pinheiro will take over as head coach of KAS Eupen at the start of the season. The 48-year-old Portuguese has extensive experience as a head coach in professional football. In the 2020/21 season, he led GD Estoril Praia to the top division as champions of Liga Portugal 2. He also gained international experience with Qatar’s youth national teams – including participation in the FIFA U20 World Cup – and as head coach of top Qatari club and current champions Al Sadd SC.He also knows the club from a brief intermezzo at AS in the 19/20 season. Most recently, he was in charge of first division club Gil Vicente FC in the Portuguese Primeira Liga in the 2024/25 season.
Bruno Pinheiro is bringing his experienced coaching team with him to Eupen. He will be accompanied by the two assistant coaches, goalkeeping coach, fitness coach and video analyst. In addition to trust, the interaction within this team is characterised by clearly defined responsibilities and processes as well as a common training and playing philosophy, decisive factors for sporting success.
As part of this structural restart, the collaboration with assistant coach Kristoffer Andersen and goalkeeping coach Tetsuo Taguchi will also come to an end. Kristoffer Andersen had been part of the KAS Eupen coaching staff since 1 July 2021 and took over responsibility for the professional team on an interim basis during two difficult phases. Tetsuo Taguchi worked as goalkeeping coach in the 2024/25 season and made a significant contribution to the further development of our goalkeepers.
KAS Eupen would like to thank both coaches for their valuable work and commitment to the club. Kristoffer and Tetsuo have provided important impetus in the sporting field through their loyalty and expertise. We wish them all the best for their professional and personal future.
All three coaches deserve our appreciation, as they have always put themselves at the service of KAS Eupen.
