Qatar’s U19 national team have reached the semi-finals at the U19 Asian Championship in Indonesia, qualifying for their fourth U20 World Championship to be held in Poland next year.
KAS U21 players Abdollah Ali Saei, Abdulrasheed Umarou Ibrahim, Youssef Aymam Farahat and Homam Elamin Ahmed were instrumental in securing this success for the Qatari national squad. Currently standing at 7 goals, KAS forward Abdulrasheed Umarou Ibrahim has a good chance of being proclaimed the tournament’s top scorer at the end of the competition on Sunday.
Qatar earned 1st place in Group A at this Asian Championship and secured their place in the quarterfinals. After conceding a 2-1 defeat against the United Arab Emirates, the Qatari won their group matches against hosts Indonesia 6-5 and Chinese Taipei 4-0. In a spectacular quarterfinal, Qatar eliminated Thailand 7-3 and made it to the semi-finals. By doing so they also qualified for the FIFA U20 World Cup in May/June 2019 in Poland. In the semi-finals, Qatar suffered a 3-1 defeat to South Korea and will therefore face Japan on Sunday for 3rd place.
After a regeneration phase all four players are expected back at KAS Eupen. They will train with the 1st division team and be used in U21 or 1st division championship depending on the nomination by the coach teams.
