The U21 team of KAS Eupen reached the quarterfinals of the national cup competition this Tuesday. The team coached by Angel Cortes and Sébastien Aritz won their home match in the round of last sixteen against league competitor Zulte Waregem 2-0 in winter conditions.
Both teams had a jumpstart to the game without creating any significant chances though. Basically, last passes missed their destination or goal scoring opportunities lacked necessary precision.
In a nervously led match both teams changed sides with a scoreless draw.
To increase the pressure on their opponents, the Eupen team made two changes at the beginning of the second half. Now the KAS took control over the game, but could not turn their superiority into goals at first. In the end, however, Eupen scored two goals with a shot from Marciano Aziz and a successful one on one situation from Antonio Rallegri settling the final score, 2-0.
Thier 2-0 victory secured the U21 team of KAS Eupen a spot in the round of the last eight. The draw for the quarterfinals of the U21 cup competition will take place in a few weeks.
