The KAS Eupen U17 and U19 teams have done exceedingly well in the Elite Division 2, ending up as champions of their respective series. The U16, U15 and U14 also did very well, rounding off the overall result with their respective third places. As the best club in the Elite Division 2 in the U15-U19 categories, KAS Eupen has repeated last year’s success, again qualifying for the second-strongest play-off group.
Coached by Joseph Palmisano, the KAS Eupen U19 team won the title in a gripping final, winning 6:1 against Roeselare in the last match of the season. The win put the team one point clear of KV Kortrijk, who could only manage a 3:3 draw against Waasland. The AFC Tubize similarly ended the season just one point behind KAS Eupen.
As the KAS Eupen U17 team had already built up an unassailable lead at the top of its table, the 0:3 defeat against Roeselare could not stop it becoming champion. The team coached by Michel Grandjean ended up two points clear of Mouscron and 5 points clear of KV Ostende.
In the Elite Division 2, KAS Eupen played against the youth teams of the Pro League clubs KV Kortrijk, KV Ostende, Mouscron, Waasland and Antwerp and those of the 1B clubs Tubize, CS Bruges, Roeselare, Union Saint Gilloise, Lierse and Beerschot. In the final phase of the championship, the Play-Off Group 2, KAS Eupen will be facing four teams from the Elite Division 1 and the four best teams from the Elite Division 2 (Eupen, Tubize, Mouscron and Ostende).
Angel Cortes, sporting manager of the KAS Eupen U17-U21 teams, can thus look back on the season with great satisfaction: “With all U15 to U19 teams in the TOP 3 of their respective leagues, we have achieved the best result of all Elite Division 2 clubs and have qualified for the Play Off 2. And don’t forget, we didn’t get off to a good start to the season. But we kept cool, sticking to our match strategy. Within our youth department, all teams play to the strategy of keeping control of the ball, with players taught to make the right decision in each situation. This helped us get back onto the winning track, as reflected by the excellent overall result. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our coaches, support staff and players.”
