KAS Eupen U21 team hosted Royal Antwerp FC, the Reserve 1A leader, on the artificial pitch of the Kehrweg Stadium on Monday evening and suffered a 0-1 defeat.
The game had barely been underway when the guests from Antwerp (2nd minute) had a great chance to score. A pass from one of his teammates was too short, however, goalkeeper Babacar Niasse was able to prevent his team from falling behind at an early stage by running out of his goal resolutely. After this moment of shock, Eupen found their way into this game and created numerous chances. However, they could not use them to score. So when the half-time whistle was blown, it was still a goalless draw.
The second half was similar to the first one: Eupen kept on creating a couple of big scoring chances, while being unable to transform them. Antwerp opened the score in the 68th minute with a controversial penalty kick for handball. Eupen reacted and once again threw everything forward, but the score would no longer move until the final whistle. Antwerp maintains its leading position in the Reserve 1A table with its 1-0 victory. In the overall standings, KAS Eupen slips to 10th place after the 5th defeat of the season.
