For personal reasons KAS Eupen Sports Director Josep Colomer decided before end of last season to leave the club and to focus on other tasks within Aspire Zone Foundation. Josep Colomer has been Sports Director of KAS Eupen since Aspire Zone Foundation took over the club in summer 2012 with the highlights of being promoted to the Jupiler-Pro League in 2016 and staying in the Belgian top flight continuously ever since. Many young talented players from Aspire as well as locally have been developed via KAS Eupen during his tenure, such as e.g. seven Qatar National Team players including Akram Afif and Abdedlkarim Hassan etc., who won the Asian Cup this January for the first time in history. Other players, who developed via KAS Eupen are e.g. Moussa Wague (FC Barcelona; Senegal National Team), Henry Onyekuru (AS Monaco; Nigeria National Team), Christian Kabasele (Watford FC; Belgian National Team), Clinton Mata (Club Brugge; Belgian National Team) etc. as well as other talents still playing for KAS Eupen, such as e.g. Lazare Amani, Silas Gnaka, Sibiry Keita.
“It has been a great time and experience as Sports Director of KAS Eupen and it was a pleasure to work with the responsible staff and the players of the club during the last seven years. Eupen will always stay in my heart. I will still stay in touch with the club and try to visit Eupen from time to time. I wish KAS Eupen and all its staff, players and fans all the very best for the future. The foundation of the club looks solid to me and my feeling is, that the club will steadily improve further – good luck Eupen”, Josep Colomer wished to express.
Dr. Andreas Bleicher (Board of Directors KAS Eupen) said: “Josep Colomer has been one of the pillars of KAS Eupen since the very beginning. Josep has always been working wholeheartedly for the benefit of our club. He never tried to be in the limelight. With his restrained, kind and at the same time determined manner he achieved to make our team better year by year. Our success will always be associated with him closely. Certainly, even though with a heavy heart, we accept his personal decision of focussing more on other Aspire Zone Foundation related tasks. At the same time, we are very glad, that we will stay in touch, so that we still can benefit from his advice and his immense experience, even that he may not hold any office at our club anymore. I´d like to thank Josep sincerely personally and in the name of our club for the trustful cooperation and wish him all the very best.”
