The U21 team of KAS Eupen celebrated a great 1:0 home victory against KRC Genk. Also with their second team the club from Limburg province ranks among the top teams of Division Reserve 1A. Due to their fifth victory this season, KAS Eupen advanced to fifth place in the overall standings, equal on points with the U21 of Anderlecht, Sint-Truiden and Standard.
Despite the cold, the U21 teams of KAS Eupen and KRC Genk met on the artificial turf pitch of the Kehrweg stadium in front of an impressive attendance. The spectators witnessed a good match at high speed.
Pressing high upfront, Eupen put their opponents under pressure from the outset and made sure that KRC Genk did not have a clear shot on target in the first half. Increasingly the Eupen players were in possession of the ball and took the lead just before the half-time whistle. A defender of the away team deflected a free kick taken by Souleymane Aw into his own goal, 1:0. The opening goal in the 42nd minute also settled the half-time score.
The second half was a bit more hectic on both sides and KAS Eupen missed several possibilities to secure their victory once and for all. Nonetheless, no further goals were conceded.
In conclusion: A great success of KAS Eupen, thus remaining in the race for a seat in the Play Off 1 competition.
