KAS Eupen had to secure a win away to Lommel in order to make it out of the group stage and stay in the race for the U21 national Cup. The team coached by Angel Cortes and Sébastien Aritz fulfilled its mission with a resounding 5-2 victory.
The game started fast when the hosts from Lommel smashed a shot off the crossbar. KAS Eupen then turned on the pressure against the opposing defence and was rewarded for its efforts. Lucas Geurde scored the opening goal with a strong shot. Shortly before half-time, however, Lommel managed to grab the equaliser to make it 1-1, and that’s how it stayed heading into the break.
Eupen came out fighting in the second half and after a handful of scoring chances went into the lead thanks to a goal by Rabbi Djongambo (2-1). KAS Eupen gained more and more momentum and consolidated their lead with a goal from Miguel Musset Quintais (3-1) and a penalty from Antonino Rallegri (4-1). Lommel gave the hosts some hope by clawing one back to make it 4-2 just before the final whistle, but Antonino Rallegri sealed the deal with a goal to give Eupen a decisive final score of 5-2 in this Cup match.
Conclusion: a very good performance by KAS Eupen’s U21 team, which is now on its way to the last 16 in the Cup competition.
