On the ninth match day of the Reserve National 1A league, KAS Eupen’s U21 team lost 1-3 away to Sporting Charleroi.
The hosts fielded a strong team that included 10 players from the A squad (including Perbet, Saglik and Nganga) and went full throttle right from the kick-off. A few minutes in, Jérémy Perbet fluffed a 100% chance to score. Nevertheless, Charleroi managed to take a 1-0 lead after 11 minutes. Jérémy Perbet netted just 4 minutes later to increase the lead to 2-0. The team coached by Angel Cortes was reeling from the KO blow, but found a way to get back into the game, thanks to Yvan Yagan, who scored one for Eupen to make it 2-1 to Charleroi. Eupen created more chances to score, but finished the half still trailing by a goal.
Eupen also had several opportunities to equalise at the beginning of the second half. But despite many clear chances, the ball just would not cross the goal line. Charleroi smashed a goal into the top corner from 30 metres out – Babacar Niasse could nothing to stop it – turning the scoreline into a completely surprising 3-1. Eupen created more chances, but squandered them all.
And that’s the way it stayed, a 3-1 win for Sporting Charleroi, while KAS Eupen fell to their third defeat of the season. Eupen remains 7th in the table with 13 points from 8 games. KAS Eupen still has a catch-up game to play against RSC Anderlecht.
